A land donation pushes bike/ped trail to Molalla a little closer to reality somewhere in the future

A bike and walking trail from Canby to Molalla is getting closer to fruition after the Canby City Council adopted Resolution 1280 at its Dec. 6 meeting, which allows the city to accept a donation of land that will add to the current Logging Road Trail.

A land donation from the Traverso family will help extend the trail closer to Molalla.

A donation of land brings Canby and Molalla a little closer for a desired bike and pedestrian trail between the two towns.

"It will ultimately extend our logging trail by about three miles, effectively doubling the length of the path," said City Administrator Rick Robinson. "The Traverso family has been talking with the city about donating that land and to use it as an extension of our own Logging Road Trail.

"It puts us about two-thirds of the way to restoring the trail from Canby to Molalla," Robinson added. "That is kind of exciting in terms of what we'd like to see. It's going to be a really, really neat trail when it's done."

Robinson said the idea is to make the trail viable for both walking and bicycle use.

"The hope is to have everything done by the end of this calendar year," said Robinson. "I'm sure we'll need to do some improvements with it, but we have a funding source to accomplish what we need to accomplish.

"The biggest benefit is that we now have the property in our inventory and we can work with it," he added. "It's really an exciting opportunity for the city."
