Last week, Canby students in grades 6-8 competed in a district OBOB tournament

After being snowed out the previous week, on Wednesday, Feb. 28, Canby students in sixth through eighth grades finally had their chance to dig into the Oregon Battle of the Books district tournament. The ending was a doozy with the Knowledge Knights from (you guessed it) Knight Elementary coming out on top.

In the initial rounds, the 12 teams were split into groups of three teams. The two top-scoring overall teams would then battle it out for the title. But at the end of these rounds, two teams, the Lincoln MacBooks and LOL both from Ninety-One School, had tied for second. So after a round of sudden death to determine who would face the high-scoring Knowledge Knights, the Lincoln MacBooks advanced.

In the final round, the Knowledge Knights, a sixth grade team made up of members Brayden Boley, Keegan Mundis, Evan Kinzie, Rachel Windham and Mollie Moore, took the first ever OBOB win for Knight Elementary.

"Most of the kids in this particular group have been together with OBOB since third grade," said the team's coach Dian Moore. "It's been fun working with them for the past four years. This was exciting for them, especially because there are some tough teams out there."

The Knowledge Knights are looking forward to the sixth through eighth grade regional competition at Estacada Middle School on March 17.
