Canby Lions Club continues its tradition of handing out U.S. Flags to first-graders in Canby schools

The Canby Lions Club continues its long standing tradition of handing out U.S. Flags to every first grade student in Canby schools.

Each flag is 4-by-6 inches in size and is attached to a wooden post which is placed in a drilled hole in a 2-by-2 inch piece of alder wood.

Canby Lions Club members continue the tradition of giving out U.S. Flags to first grade students.

Along with the gift of the flag, the students are given information about the flag and how the U.S. Flag should be respected. Students have the opportunity to share some of their knowledge of the flag and what the flag means to them.

Each first grader is given his or her own personal flag and brochure to take home to share with other family members.

A total of 337 flags were distributed this year. Lion Paul Ashton, chairman, and his team of six Canby Lions were busy late February and early March with this project.
