The Canby Public Library plaza will be the site of a ceremony to dedicate the town's new Peace Pole

Canby City Manager Rick Robinson's announcement regarding the dedication of a "Peace Pole" was one of the more interesting aspects of the April 4 Canby City Council meeting.

The pole will be dedicated on Friday, April 13, at the plaza next to the Canby Public Library behind the flag pole. The Peace Pole is a worldwide effort to spread peace to all people and backgrounds. Each pole is designed with the saying "May Peace Prevail on Earth" in four languages.

Canby's pole will have four languages, one on each of the sides.

The hand-crafted Peace Poles have been established all over the world in up to 170 languages, some with various and native dialects.

> Robinson said he was planning to meet with Canby Disposal Company to discuss a number of developments in recyclables and garbage regarding the impact of new rates on residents.

> He also noted he was seeking some answers to questions regarding the Canby Ferry rumors (see story above). He plans to meet with the Clackamas County planning commission.
