Peter Pan and friends land on Canby stage
You can fly away to Neverland with the cast of Allegro Dance Studio's Musical Theatre Department on June 22-23 as they present Peter Pan Jr.
The show, which features Canby area students in grades 3-8, will take place at Richard R. Brown Fine Arts Center on Friday, June 22 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, June 23 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m.
"I'm so excited. We've been waiting to do this show for like five years," said Director Ellie Simnitt. "This has been kind of a long work in progress. So, we're stoked."
Peter Pan Jr. involves special effects and other elements that would not have been possible for the musical theatre crew in the start-up years.
"We're doing the flying thing, which is kind of a big deal for us," Simnitt said. "Instead of just pretending to fly, they're actually flying."
In addition to airborne characters, crowds can also expect top-notch acting and singing from leads Jamie Mack as Peter Pan, Peyton Daugherty as Wendy and Kaylee Keeney as Hook.
"The kids are great. They're awesome," Simnitt said. "They're kind of blowing me away. I love them, I love them so much."
The characters will dance and fly about a transformed stage, with an elaborate pirate ship and Neverland set built by Flower Farmer Louis Garre. Cast parents Bob Mack and Barb Crabbe are building additional set pieces.
So grab tickets, on sale at Cutsforth's Thriftway for $10, and then "come with me, where dreams are born, and time is never planned. Just think of happy things, and your heart will fly on wings, forever, in Never Never Land."
