Canby gets tabbed seventh safest city for violent crimes, is No. 1 on property crimes chart

The city of Canby was ranked the seventh safest city in Oregon by Safewise, a home consulting business that uses an FBI data base to compile its stats. The rankings are based on violent crimes, not property crimes, though they include the property crime numbers as well.

Sherwood was ranked No. 1 in the study, followed by Sandy, Lake Oswego, Albany, Silverton, Bend and then Canby.

Canby's numbers were:

Population: 17,395

Violent crimes per 1,000: 1.21

Property crimes per 1,000: 10.29

Total crime: 11.73% violent, 88.27% property.

Other communities around the Canby area that were ranked were: Oregon City (25th), Woodburn (40th).

In an interesting aside, Canby's property crime rate put it No. 1 in the state based on the 47 cities that were part of the study.
