The clouds did not get the memo that Canby High School was holding graduation Friday, June 8 on the Cougar football field. Still, thousands showed up to celebrate the class of 2018.
"For all of our native Oregonians, I know none of you are surprised by this weather," Principal Greg Dinse said. "For all of you from out of state and out of country, congratulations on your baptism as honorary Oregonians."
In Canby's 105th graduation ceremony, 330 seniors walked across the stage to receive their diplomas, having brought in a total of $3.2 million in scholarships.
Among them were nine students who earned 4.0 GPAs. They were Lilliyn Zottola Baguio, Jack Bigej, Marika Bierma, Jarod Spencer, Adrianna Davis, Samuel Mitchell, Jennifer Patershall, Chase Rumpca and Ksenia Basargin.
Also among them was the first cohort of Dual Language Immersion program students. Representing the cohort, Abigail Marine presented a speech in both English and Spanish.
The students will now leave the rain behind for a bright future.
Congratulations to Canby High School's class of 2018.
