Three people died early Tuesday morning when a vehicle on South Dryland Road, about six miles south of Canby, careened off the road and struck a group of trees around 5 a.m.
The impact was such that it split the car in half, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
In the aftermath of the accident, the driver of the car survived and was transported to an area hospital.
Three other passengers in the car were killed at the scene. Names of the victims or the survivor have not been released.
Police continue to investigate the accident. Several residents in the area say they have been requesting speed adjustments in that area to the county for some time now.
