ANNIVERSARY - To celebrate the event, an open house event will be held on Sunday, Aug. 12

David and Mille Stemeier will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house Aug. 12.

David and Millie Stegmeier will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary in mid-August. The couple were married on Aug. 15, 1968, in Newark, Ohio. David was raised in Montana, and Millie grew up in Ohio. After graduating from the University of Montana, David taught in Montana and Ohio. Millie attended Capital University in Columbus, Ohio where she studied piano. For several years, Millie taught piano privately while living in Ohio.

In June 1970, David accepted the pastorate of the Church of God in Canby. For the last 48 years, he has been pastor of the local congregation.

For 37 years, David also taught as a substitute teacher in the Canby schools. In 2005, he was chosen as the Oregon Substitute Teacher of the Year.

David and Millie have seven children: Randy (of Molalla), Korine Boyd, Lorine Wakefield , Ron, Dorine Michel and Reggie (all of Canby) and Roland (of Mississippi). All seven of the Stegmeier children attended and graduated from the Canby schools.

Additionally, the Stegmeiers have 22 grandchildren.

The family of David and Millie Stegmeier will hold an open house on Sunday, Aug. 12, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Church of God, 522 NW 2nd Ave. in Canby.
