Library busy in August
Calling all Summer Reading participants to turn in their reading logs by Aug. 10.
> Teen readers have two more programs to get excited about. On Aug. 1 at 6 p.m., the library has scheduled "Digeridoo Aussie Funk Jam."
In this upbeat workshop, participants learn to play the "didge," including animal sounds and simple rhythms, with beginner didgeridoos. Participants also learn how to craft and paint their own didgeridoos (on their own time) with household items like cardboard tubes. The Aussie Funk Jam is cool, funky and unique -- a one-of-a-kind musical and cultural experience.
For more information, call the library at 503-266-3394 or visit to sign up for this event.
> On Aug. 8 at 6 p.m., teens are invited to an ice cream social which will include silly games, bingo, ice cream and prizes. No registration required.
> Mindfulness for children -- every Monday in August at 6 p.m.
Mindfulness activities help children become more engaged in activities and create a greater capacity to deal with adverse events. Being mindful helps to be able to form deep connections with others through kindness and empathy.
This 30-minute class is taught by Celesta Graves, RN.
> Family Night on Aug. 30 at 6:30 p.m. will present a puppet show workshop with Karen Karbo.
Kids will enjoy working with a variety of tools and unconventional materials to build shadow puppets.
Participants will use paper, wire, and found objects to create characters and settings; experiment with scale, music and sound effects to enrich the puppet parade.
