Three Canby residents join Pride of Portland Chorus
Canby residents Rocky VanDerZanden, Jo Brehm, Julie Mikulic and Harriet Goglin will be traveling to St. Louis, Missouri on Oct. 15-21 to help the Pride of Portland Chorus perform at the Sweet Adelines International Competition.
And, prior to leaving for St. Louis, the Chorus will perform in Canby. Everyone is invited to the Richard R. Brown Fine Arts Auditorium on Oct. 6 at 3 p.m. for the concert featuring the Pride of Portland Chorus. Also performing at the event are the Bridge Town Sound Chorus, Allegro Dance Company dancers and the Lift Off and Renegade Quartets. There will be a VIP event before the concert.
"Sweet Adelines International has allowed me to sing with an international award-winning chorus," said VanDerZanden. "The musical and administrative education that we get each week is phenomenal. Beginning with the Barlow Trail Chorus in Canby, I have been singing for 34 years with Sweet Adelines and have traveled to places I could only dream about.
"Pride of Portland has been fortunate enough to share our music all over the United States and New Zealand. But the most important factor I have been given is to share my love of music with all my sisters in harmony. They are my family away from home," she added.
Sweet Adelines International has more than 25,000 members singing in more than 600 choruses and 1,200 quartets in 14 countries and five continents. There are 34 choruses from all over the world competing in the St. Louis competition.
