Residents invited to comment on businesses they'd like to see in the downtown area

The Canby Chamber of Commerce is holding a Community Visioning Forum for what they are calling the Civic Block on Oct. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m.

Canby residents are invited to join the forum, which will be located on the bottom floor of the Dahlia Building where retail stores eventually will become part of the city's downtown.

This is a chance for every resident to suggest what they want Canby's downtown to look like.

The forum is billed as an interactive design workshop and listening session for the future of downtown Canby. The idea is that residents look at a single block, they are calling it the Civic Block, bordered north and south by NW 1st and 2nd Avenues and East and West by N Holly and Ivy Streets. Currently, N Holly houses the Old Police Station and Historic City Hall.

Canby Utility is in the middle of NW 1st Street with an existing building on the corner of 1st and N. Ivy. There also are four dissimilar-sized buildings on NW 2nd Street that are slated for retail.

Chamber director Kyle Lang alerted city council members about the forum at their Oct. 10 meeting. Council members will be available at the session along with Chamber members and Hanlon Development to take part in the forum. They all want to learn what residents would prefer.

It's also not without its perks, there will be refreshments.
