Volunteers fashion 250 blankets for homess students in Canby and Molalla during two hour event

Once again, volunteers flocked to the Baker Prairie gym to make this season a time of warmth and comfort for school children of all ages in Canby and Molalla.

Operation Snuggle created 250 blankets in two hours that will go to 198 homeless students in Canby and another 50 in Molalla.

"It was the same Saturday as Shop with a Cop and Breakfast with Santa so I was worried about attendance," said Dawn Depner, event organizer. "Fortunately, Canby came together as we always do and we had enough folks show up. I say it every year but it's truly heartwarming to see this community come together for our kids.

The gym at Baker Prairie Middle School was filled with volunteers making blankets for homeless students in Canby and Molalla.

The event even got a little athletic push when members of the Mt. Hood Community College softball team stopped by to lend a hand.

"I could not do this without the help of Canby Fire, who comes every year and helps set up and clean up the gym afterwards," she added. "We are blessed to have generous donations from Canby Alliance, BigDawg Construction , Team Unger Real Estate and the Canby Dahlia Run, as well as our anonymous donors. This is truly a community event and I am thankful for Canby identifying a need and coming together to keep these kiddos warm."
