The annual Canby High alumni choir will begin practices on Jan. 15, performance is April 26-27

The Canby alumni choir is beginning to form.

Directors Brooks and Tom Gingerich invite members from Canby High concert choirs from the past to join this fifth season. The choir will sing classic masterworks featuring composers Mozart, Beethoven and Brahms. The repertoire will include favorites from the last five years as well as some new pieces.

"I look forward to re-instilling this creative tradition on Tuesday evenings," said Brooks Gingerich. "While the music is very hard work, there is a feeling of gratitude and reverance that comes from classical music."

Especially challenging will be the beautiful Adagio for Strings by American composer Samuel Barber arranged for choirs. Rehearsals will begin in the Richard R. Brown Fine Arts Center on Tuesday, Jan.15, at 7 p.m.

"For me, it becomes something I look forward to throughout the weeks," said Gingerich. "Getting to sing, not just direct, allows me to nourish my appreciation for the whole experience. I feel it healing and super motivating."

Performances are set for Friday and Saturday, April 26-27 as a fundraising event for the high school choral music department.
