New event takes consumers to local downtown businesses to collect bracelet charms

Starting March 1, Canby patrons can visit local businesses for something of a charm bracelet scavenger hunt with the launch of a new event, Charmed with Canby.PAMPLIN FILE PHOTO - The 'Charmed with Canby' event benefits the Canby Historical Society.

"We were just looking to put together an event where we could really celebrate our downtown charm and get people out and walking around our downtown businesses," said Megan Waterman, owner of the Book Nook and co-organizer of the event, along with Suzan Joy of Retro Revival.

Seventeen downtown businesses are participating in the event, with all proceeds benefitting the historical society.

It works like this. Consumers can purchase a charm bracelet and ticket booklet for $30 at the historical society, the Book Nook or Retro Revival. Each of the 17 tickets are good for a unique charm at participating businesses from March 1 through May 3. The charms will come with coupons or other goodies as well. Collect them all and head to the historical society for a final, special charm to complete your bracelet.

All charms are included in that initial cost of $30.

"Our main focus is we want to remind people we're still a small town. It's just Suzy on the corner in a shop," Joy said. "Even though we're growing and changing, we're still a small town with small town shops. Come on in and see what's up."

Organizers are scheming to potentially hold a launch event at the beginning of March. To find out about that, or for more information, visit the "Charmed with Canby" Facebook page.
