Passenger sent to hospital by Life Flight after reportedly intoxicated driver crashes into utility pole near Canby

COURTESY PHOTO: CCSO - A single-vehicle crash at Highway 170 and Macksburg on Memorial Day reportedly involved alcohol. On May 27, there was a single vehicle rollover and crash at the intersection of Highway 170 and Macksbuurg Road just south of Canby when a deputy responded to the scene at 7:15 p.m. The vehicle reportedly struck a utility pole and a passenger was injured.

The deputy determined driver Julie Ann Shively, 54 of Canby, entered the curve at the location too fast, drove off the road and traveled into the ditch before jumping a driveway and striking a PGE utility pole, according to Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

The single passenger in the car, Kieren Shively, 21, was injured and sent to an area hospital as a trauma patient by Life Flight. He is the adult son of the driver, Julie Shively, per the police.

A Canby Police Officer conducted a DUII investigation that later determined Julie Shively was under the influence of alcohol and unable to drive a vehicle safely, the sheriff's office said. She was transported to an area hospital by ambulance with minor injuries. She also was issued a citation in lieu of being taken into custody for the DUII. The case was submitted to the Clackamas County District Attorney's Office for prosecution.

Officers from the Canby Police Department were the first to arrive on scene. American Medical Response and the Clackamas County Fire Department also responded to the crash and assisted.
