Tate, Jax make it to Jacksonville
It took three months, but Canby's John Tate and his trusty dog Jax completed their 3,000-mile bike ride to Florida to raise money for K9s for Warriors.
Along the way, Tate has raised more than $25,000 to provide service canines for returning military men and women who are suffering from PTSD, traumatic brain injury and/or military sexual trauma as a result of military service post 9/11.
Tate left Canby the morning of April 9 and nearly three months to the day, he arrived at his destination – the Jacksonville, Fla. headquarters of K9s for Warriors.
Along the way he experienced heat, cold, severe rain and the breaking down of the trailer he was hauling Jax in. Through it all, the goal was always the same – finish in Jacksonville.
He made it.
"I'm going to get on my bike with a bunch of bags and a trailer hooked behind for Jax and we're going to ride across the country," said Tate before he left. "This is for them (K9s for Warriors). When I'm hauling 175 pounds of stuff and a dog up a hill, I can think about these guys and what they're going through."
