This episode of Canby Vibe welcomed new Canby High Football coach Jimmy Joyce to the studio to talk about the program – where it was and where he hopes it will go.
Joyce, who had been the longtime offensive coordinator for Beaverton High School, said he came late to the application process for the head job in Canby, but once he got the opportunity to hit the ground running, he did just that.
Joyce complimented the commitment of the players, parents and community as a whole as the program undergoes a "culture shift" he hopes will pay big dividends down the road. The new coach talked about community involvement and engagement, creating a program that offers the players a chance to learn valuable life lessons and skills, as well as have a lot of fun doing it.
Canby Herald staff talked about the excitement his arrival has caused within the community and how that excitement can create a supportive and dynamic fan base within the community.
Joyce discussed what kind of team he hopes the fans will see this year, as well as what kind of offensive and defensive systems he hopes to have in place and running as the season unfolds.
The season kicked off Friday, Aug. 30 at 6 p.m. with a jamboree at Canby High. The regular season unfolds Friday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m. when the Cougars host 2018 PIL champion Lincoln.
