Canby Vibe: Episode 35
This week's Canby Vibe podcast focused initially on an unpleasant event that happened in the community recently – the drug overdose death of an employee at Canby Grove Conference Center.
Reporter Kristen Wohlers led the entire Canby Herald staff in a discussion about the struggles of working on the story. The staff talked about the feel for doing this type of story and the care that Wohlers has put into it.
Additionally, a middle school fight that occurred Friday night, has led to multiple arrests, one person sent to the hospital for care, and a mountain of rumors, innuendo and just plain silly explanations on social media.
Wohlers talked about putting this story together, the care she wants to take to separate fact from a sea of fiction, and how this situation can and should be a teachable moment. Wohlers, Editor John Baker, Reporter Carol Rosen, and Sports Editor Derek Wiley offered their thoughts on the events that occurred and their hope for the young people involved in this fracas.
Also on tap during the show was a shout-out to four Canby firefighters that have traveled to Northern California to help with the Kincaid Fire that is ravaging that part of the state. Along the way, the staff wished the firefighters good luck and Wohlers was able to fold in a moment of excitement about the giant bottles of wine she discovered at a big store chain.
