Canby's Urban Renewal Agency has a pair of businesses that may be interested in the city's program

The Urban Renewal Agency has plans to meet on Nov. 20 at the Council Chambers to discuss façade improvement grant applications at 6:30 p.m.

The agency received an application for a construction grant for the commercial property owned by PNR LLC, Peter Hostetler located at 593 SE 1st Ave. for up to $25,000.

The business wants to update the façade to improve the property on Highway 99E.

The owners hope to include new windows, new architectural sheet metal façade, new paint and screening a covered area.

Main Street Design Committee members noted that "the improvements definitely benefit with a refreshing new façade. Siding gets my approval. Would the owner consider having a mural on the West side of the building?"

The Canby Herald.

Staff noted the application is strong given the proposed total investment of $197,500 at a minimum. The property faces Highway 99E, an "aesthetically challenging gateway to Canby." It recommends approving the matching grant of $25,000.

The city received another façade improvement grant for $25,000 for a commercial building at 615 SE 1st Ave. also owned by PNR, LLC Peter Hostetler. PNR LLC wants to update the building's façade by adding new windows and new paint.

The Main Street Design Committee members commented that "These proposed changes look favorable. I think it represents a good improvement; it meets my approval."

"This partnership will help the Canby Business District revitalize and become more inviting to customers and residents," according to the Urban Renewal Agency.

Staff noted the application is strong. It has a total investment of $61,750 and because it faces Highway 99E it can challenge the city's design. City staff recommends approving the $25,000 grant.
