Once again the Canby Kiwanis Food and Toy Drive was able to make the Christmas season a little happier for local families

Clackamas County Event Center was awash with people, boxes of food — and thousands of toys bagged especially for specific families along, with Santa Claus, Christmas trees, swags and books. It was quite a sight to see on Dec. 20.

The organized process was full of children, many with candy canes and books after sitting on Santa's lap.

Besides adult Kiwanis members helping, there were Builders Club (middle school) members running upstairs to get the black sacks filled with goodies for good little girls and boys.

This event was the 61st time for the organization to help those less fortunate at Christmas. The help is for people living in Canby and a large number of volunteers give their time starting in November to help out. The organization received donations and financial help from people in Canby, as well as businesses. It all stays in Canby.

But even after the first full day giveaway ended at 6 p.m., there were people there Dec. 21 to deliver all the goodies to families without transportation.
