Canby Public Library will host a unique workshop on Feb. 4; also has vaccine eduation class on tap

The Canby Public Library will have a full slate of activities in February. Here's a look at some of what's coming up at the library.

Eco-friendly funerals – Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m.

Curious about 'green' funerals? This type of funeral is defined by doing less of what is involved in a typical burial. Traditional burials involve loading the body with embalming fluids, placing it in a casket, and interring the body and casket in the ground in a concrete burial vault.

Eco-friendly burial can mean skipping the use of embalming fluids and burying the body in a biodegradable shroud or a simple wood coffin that will biodegrade over time. Presenter Elizabeth Fournier will talk about current regulations and practices of green burial, death care preferences, caring for a body at home after death, and comprehending forms of disposition in the State of Oregon.

BOOST Oregon – Vaccine Education – Feb. 6 at 6 p.m.

BOOST Oregon is a parent-led community that educates families about vaccines and dispels rumors that circulate online and among their peers. Parents are invited to learn the science behind vaccines with a naturally-minded, board-certified pediatrician. Unlike other forums, this workshop is not intended to scare people into or out of anything. This presentation aims to help families feel more empowered and informed about their children's vaccines.
