Initial reports indicate Charlie Brennan, a 16-year-old junior at Oregon City High School, was not wearing a seatbelt

Charlie Brennan, a 16-year-old junior at Oregon City High School, died in a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday morning.

A homeowner heard the crash and called 911.

Deputies arrived at the scene to find a 2013 Volkswagen four-door sedan had left the roadway and crashed into a tree, significantly compacting the front passenger side of the vehicle. Clackamas Fire personnel extracted the driver from the vehicle and began life-saving efforts, but Brennan was determined to be deceased.

Clackamas County's Medical Examiner and forensic technicians responded to the scene to gather information and evidence. After an initial investigation, authorities believe Brennan was heading southwest on Henrici Road when the vehicle left the roadway for an unknown reason and collided with the tree. Initial evidence indicates that Brennan was not wearing a seatbelt.

Brennan's family has asked for privacy. OCHS officials have been notified and have made counselors available to students as needed.

Brennan was a former basketball player at OCHS, participating with the program during his freshman year.
