Staff at Canby School District have been busy behind the scenes working to prepare supplemental learning opportunities for students during the school closure, as required in Governor Kate Brown's executive order.

Resources are available online here.

But the school district acknowledges that some students may have technology needs and are asking families to complete a survey, available at

"Once we know who needs support with technology, we will provide it," said Superintendent Trip Goodall in a letter to district families on Friday, March 20.

As for internet access, DirectLink is stepping in to help families who have students in the home. For the next two months, DirectLink is offering free service to new subscribers and upgraded speed to current subscribers. Those who wish to take advantage can call 503-266-8111.

Beyond that, little information is available.

School districts are still awaiting further communication from the Oregon Department of Education, according to a letter Canby High Principal Greg Dinse sent to families on Wednesday, March 25.

At the forefront for ODE is keeping high school students on track to graduate.

"This may mean some graduation requirements may be adjusted or waived," Dinse said in the letter. "We're awaiting further information."

In the waiting, the school district is working to ensure every student has access to learning opportunities during the closure and is planning for a shortened grading period upon return to school.

While the future is uncertain, Dinse said that for the time being, big events like graduation and prom are still scheduled.

Students are expected to return to school April 29, barring any changes. Until then, the school district will continue providing grab-and-go meals from 8-11 a.m. Monday through Friday from March 30 at Baker Prairie Middle School, Carus Elementary School, Eccles Elementary School, Ninety-One School and Trost Elementary School.
