Canby: Yard of the Month
The Canby Garden Club once again is holdings its yearly Garden of the Month series, beginning with the home of Gayle Fleming at 792 S. Lupine St.
The yearly series highlights yards and gardens within Canby that take things up a notch in terms of beauty and aesthetics.
Gayle and her husband moved to Canby about six years ago and were delighted to discover that the previous owner already had done much of the landscaping. Since then, Fleming has added her own touches to the yard, but has kept it basically intact since when they arrived.
The Flemings moved from the Tualatin area where they lived on four acres at Chehalem Mountain between Newberg and Hillsboro for nearly 20 years. Their property included fruit trees and her love of gardening was nurtured there.
In fact, Fleming has done landscaping projects for other people over the years and belonged to the Hardy Plant Society. She credits her mother for developing her love of gardening.
One of Fleming's favorite features is the koi pond in her back yard. When not in the yard, she is an artist who works with colored pencils.
