Golden Anniversary event goes online
For more than 20 years, longtime couples in Clackamas County have celebrated with a special Golden Anniversary event, and the pandemic will not stop it from happening this year.
The North Clackamas Parks & Recreation District, in partnership with five senior and community centers in Clackamas County, are keeping the tradition alive with a virtual celebration for couples who have been together for 50 years or longer.
The free event will begin at 11 a.m. Friday, June 19, on local community access channels and YouTube, according to a news release from Clackamas County. Couples will be celebrated with a ceremony, music and a complimentary meal delivered to their home from participating centers.
To register, couples are asked to contact their local participating senior or community center, listed below, by June 10.
Couples are invited to submit a photo of themselves ahead of time to be featured at the event.
"We're excited to partner with other community centers this year to continue the tradition by connecting virtually with homebound seniors, allowing them to safely celebrate this wonderful occasion," said Tina Johnson, Milwaukie Center recreation coordinator.
This year's Golden Anniversary is sponsored by Bob's Red Mill.
