Yard of the Month
Ann Zitzelberger has a passion for gardening that was instilled by her mother and perpetuated by her desire to learn and do more in the garden.
The result of the hard work that she and her huband "Z" are having at their home at 384 S.E. 7th St., tabbed their home as the Canby Garden Club's Yard of the Month for June.
When Ann and her sisters were young, her mother took them into the garden and talked about the different plants, their names and if they were edible or not.
"We had many adventures visiting nurseries and gardens over the years," Ann said.
In the ensuing years, she has become a master gardener, worked for several landscapers, was part of the horticulture programs at both Clark College and Clackamas Community College, is a member of the Hardy Plant Society and is involved with the American Horticulture Therapy Association–Northwest Chapter.
Her husband gets the duty of mowing and pruning, while she does the designing and planting.
Ann says that her garden has been her sanctuary, particularly in the last few months. She said that during the pandemic, more people are outside — walking and running or riding bikes — and she has loved meeting neighbors and making new friends while out gardening.
