We thought it might be coming, but now it's official: Kiwanis's Kiddie Capers Parade is canceled.
The annual parade highlights kids and organizations in the community on a route leading to the Clackamas County Fairgrounds and Event Center on the opening day of the county fair.
Of course, this year there's no fair due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
And now, there's no parade.
"Even though the County Fair was cancelled earlier, the committee had hoped to create some sort of parade alternative," Kiwanis announced in its July newsletter, "but there was too much uncertainty to continue."
Canby Kiwanis will post pictures of past parades on its Facebook page in August.
The club is not canceling every part of the tradition though. Currently a committee is reviewing applicants for the "Awesome Kid Award," recognizing the under-16 child who would have been Grand Marshal of the parade.
Kiwanis will present the winner with a medal at an August meeting via Zoom or in person.
