A yard to be proud of
When Edward Fitzgerald retired in 2009, his yard became his passion. And that passion, supported by wife Diane, has produced something pretty special.
So special, in fact, that the Canby Garden Club has named the yard, located at 1452 N. Hawthorne St. in Canby, the September Yard of the Month.
The couple moved to Canby in 2005 from Wilsonville, and four years later, with more time on their hands, Edward and Diane went to work on the yard, which had only a lawn and one tree at the time.
Fitzgerald began with a couple rose bushes, but with time and energy, the yard has expanded into something very appealing.
Fitzgerald said the landscaping he's done in the front yard has been a work of trial and error. He would buy plants and get advice from his wife as to where they should go. He also enjoys hitting the stores at the end of the season for more yard art.
The backyard has Fitzgerald's touch as well, featuring as much yard art as it does plants. Fitzgerald admitted he didn't have a favorite plant or flower, but did note that he liked color in his yard.
