In the aftermath of the ice storm that hit the area, the city of Canby has opened two debris sites in town

The city of Canby has opened two dumpsites for yard debris — Maple Street Park, 1300 N. Maple St., in the large parking lot; and near Ackerman School, 350 S.E. 13th Ave., in the parking lot between the pool and Adult Center.

These sites were chosen as they are safe. The city recommends that people stay clear of the trees in city parks, as falling limbs continue to be a hazard.

Additionally, back yard burning is permitted. Due to the debris issues caused by the ice storm, the Canby Fire District has opened back yard burning.

Anyone interested in burning will need to call the burning line daily before burning — 503-266-1195.

Backyard burners are reminded to always keep a responsible person with a garden house at the burn pile and the keep all burn piles away from any structure or combustibles.
