Canby's class of 2021 takes over Senior Rock
While the class of 2020 was the first to enjoy the Senior Rock at Canby High School, there is a new class in town, and the rock is showing it.
Last year's seniors had their final months of high school cut short. So, staff got to work to celebrate the class in a big way. That included installing a giant rock in front of the high school with "Seniors 2020" painted on it. A bronze plaque soon will be mounted near the rock, signifying 2020 as the founding year and declaring, "Canby loves our seniors."
But the intention was always for each senior class to take ownership of the rock year after year.
So the class of 2020, which will step foot this week inside the classrooms for the first time in the school year, has seized the rock and painted it to celebrate their own graduation.
"We are excited to celebrate with our current seniors, the class of 2021, and with each senior class that comes after them," Associate Principal Kimie Carroll said in a letter to high school families.
This year's class also will have the chance to place personalized baby rocks at the foot of the Senior Rock, just like last year's seniors did.
Graduation is scheduled for June 11.
