Organizers choose to support COVID-19 mandates, look toward putting something together in the fall

This year's Canby Mayor's Prayer Breakfast, set for May 6, has been postponed.

"We prayed and felt God's spirit telling us to postpone the Canby Prayer Breakfast and the possibility to look at a citywide Christian prayer meeting this fall," event organizer Pete Durkee said. "We, as a group, want to be supportive and suffer with our city within the mandates set forth by our state. As a citywide meeting representing the Christian community in Canby, we wanted to show a clear signal of being in step with the mandates our mayor, city administrator, police, fire and elected officials are called to uphold.

"Everyone may have different ideas on this, and we discussed other meeting options, but we felt that unity through love and respect was the most important trait we could provide as we live the gospel," Durkee said.

For now, Durkee said organizers are energized about what might be possible in the fall. He added that Canby residents are encouraged to pray at noon Thursday, May 6, the National Day of Prayer, to "lift up the nation."
