It's time. For the first time ever in Canby, families will be able to cool off in splash pad waters.

The city of Canby is inviting the community to the grand opening of the Maple Street Park Splash Pad at 4 p.m. June 18, just two days after Canby students are released from school for summer break.

The event will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony with the mayor, City Council and parks and recreation committee, according to a news release from the city. Light refreshments will be served.

Over the next couple of weeks, the Canby Parks and Recreation department will carry out routine maintenance on the splash pad to prepare for the opening, per the release. This means testing and running the system intermittently to ensure it is ready for the event and summertime use.

Neighboring cities already have opened their splash pads to the public, but Canby needs a bit more time. According to the release, the city anticipates streamlining the process of testing the system in the future to open the feature earlier in the season to correspond with the beginning of warmer weather.

The splash pad is located on the north side of the park at 1300 N. Maple St., between Territorial Road and Northeast 10th Avenue.
