Local fire departments host 9/11 events, plus more happening in the Canby and Molalla areas.

Colton 9/11 remembrance planned

It has been 20 years since the attacks on the World Trade Center changed the world. 

The Colton Fire District will hold a remembrance ceremony in front of the Colton Fire Station, 20987 S. Highway 211, at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, to honor those Americans who lost their lives in the 9/11 terrorist attacks. 

The event will include the posting of colors by Colton volunteer firefighters, guest speakers, a bell ceremony and closing remarks from CRFPD interim Chief Todd Gary. A social hour will follow.

Molalla hosts 9/11 memorial

Molalla Fire will host its annual 9/11 memorial service at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 11, at the Molalla Fire Station flag pole in front of the main station at 320 N. Molalla Ave.

The event is open to the public, all ages, to come together and reflect on the tragic events that took place 20 years ago, according to Molalla firefighter and paramedic Jamie Wakefield.

At this year's event, there will be a guest speaker, and the Molalla post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars organization will assist by raising a new flag for the coming year.

Hillbilly Master golf tourney coming soon

This year's third annual Hillbilly Masters golf tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 11, beginning with registration at 9:04 a.m. Play gets going with a shotgun start at 9:47 a.m. at Frontier Golf Course in Canby. The event is a fundraiser for Canby Young Life. You can register alone or bring a six-some to compete in the tournament. To register, go to 2021 Hillbilly Masters (younglife.team). Celebrate Molalla returns in September

Celebrate Molalla returns from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18. The event will feature more than 100 vendors and stretch south from Third Street to the Molalla Museum complex, where visitors can enjoy the Molalla Heritage Apple Festival. The event will feature an expanded food court, music, beverages, free kids' crafts and activities, artists and artisans, a car show and much more.

Small Farm School classes set for Sept. 15

The OSU Extension Small Farm School celebrates its tenth year with all outdoor classes and a return to in-person learning after going online in 2020.

Registrations are being accepted for the Sept. 15 event at Clackamas Community College in Oregon City. 

Small Farm School is for beginning and intermediate small-scale commercial farmers in the Willamette Valley. Experienced and knowledgeable presenters will deliver sessions covering a wide variety of topics, including soil health, stress management, mushroom cultivation, livestock, disaster preparedness, fruit trees, cover crops, composting, irrigation, and more.

Registration is open through Sept. 8 with a $60 registration fee. Late registration runs from Sept. 9 to 14 and is $75.

Needhams present free concert in Molalla

The Needhams will bring their gospel sound to Molalla Christian Church on Friday, Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. The concert is free, but a freewill offering will be taken for their expenses. The Needhams are comprised of Dave, his sister Diane, and her husband, Steve. They will also have CDs and other things for purchase after the concert.

Canby High classes set reunion

The Canby High classes of 1980 and 1981 will hold a 41st and 40th joint class reunion on Sept. 18. The event is planned for Stafford Venues on Union Hall Road in Canby. MUHS reunion set for September

The Molalla Union High School class of 1970 will hold a reunion at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 18, at Ringo Pond, 27785 S. Beavercreek Road in Molalla.

Molalla looking for Planning Commission candiate

The City of Molalla has an opening on the Planning Commission. Canby Farmers Market on through October

The Canby Farmers Market continues each Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in downtown Canby through October. The market is at First Street between Holly and Ivy streets and features an assortment of growers selling fruits and vegetables, live music, food and more. The market is always adding new vendors to the roster.
