Recent CHS graduate Kate Williams earns this year's scholarship award, gets set to attend Eastern Oregon University.

The Canby Garden Club has awarded a scholarship to Canby High School graduate Kate Williams. The horticulture scholarship will be used at Eastern Oregon University this fall.

Williams grew up in Canby on a rural farm and has worked in floriculture and is a member of Future Farmers of America (FFA). She plans to study horticulture and psychology.

"I really want to be a counselor with a small business surrounded by a large garden. I think gardens can be healing," Williams said.

Michelle Helzer, Canby Garden Club president, said she was "delighted" to award the $1,000 scholarship to a deserving student.

"We have not been able to do this for two years, due to COVID," Helzer said. "We are encouraged by Kate's dreams and wish her the very best."
