August has arrived and with it, parent and student eyes start to turn toward a return to school. And with that, there is registration, information and open houses to work through.
At the Canby School District, all current and new students should register online at canby.k12.or.us/general-enrollment. Additionally, all the district's schools are holding in-person events to welcome students and families back.
Here's a look at what's happening within the CSD.
Canby High School:
Canby High will hold registration on Aug. 23 and Aug. 25 from noon to 7 p.m. each day for students to get their picture taken, get their student ID, learn their assigned locker, and more.
School administration recommends that students complete their online registration before this date, if possible. On site, there will be assistance, including Spanish translators, for those who may need help with the online process. New students may meet with their counselor to discuss their class schedule.
Student schedules will be made available in StudentVue on Sept. 2.
The following week, the high school is hosting a "freshmen welcome back and open house" event on Aug. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m. This event will look different than in previous meet and greets. New Principal Cari Sloan, since being hired for the position this spring, has held listening sessions with students, staff, and community leaders.
She is eager to hear from other community members as well and will soon start holding more listening sessions. From those listening sessions, she learned that folks were looking for something a little different in the meet and greet experience than they had been offering. So, at the event, there will be refreshments and food, games, information on clubs and sports, information from the construction company on bond work, and more.
Sloan said she hopes it is an "interactive, fun, community event."

There, students will receive their combination lock for their main locker and PE locker, get their class schedules, have their picture taken, and receive a student ID card. For those who can't make it, there will be a mini-registration Aug. 31 from 1 to 3 p.m. with no pictures that day. But there will be a picture make-up day on Sept. 30.
