Molalla saying no to psilocybin-related businesses within the city limits, Hodson snags another term in Canby

Tuesday's late election returns have a pair of incumbents returning to the Canby City Council, while former Canby Fire Chief James Davis appears to be the new guy on the block with nearly 700 vote superiority after the first ballots have been counted.

Davis received 3,315 votes as of Friday at noon, followed by current councilor Shawn Varwig (2,316). This is where it gets interesting. Incumbent Councilor Greg Parker (2,033) has been overtaken by newcomer Herman Maldonado (2,053) in the race for that final council seat. The Clackamas County Elections Office stated that heading into the weekend, there were about 60,000 county ballots yet to count, so the battle between Maldonado and Parker would seem to be going down to the wire.

Mayor Brian Hodson, running unopposed, claims his fifth term as Canby's mayor.

Molalla

In Molalla, it looks like Leota Childress (1,298) and Terry Shankle (1,207) will retain their seat, with newcomer Rae Botsford lead the way for the third vacant seat with 1,035 votes. Thomas Luttrell is still within shouting distance with more votes to be counted, tallying 915 votes thus far.

Also in Molalla, Ballot Measure 3-590, which would prohibit psilocybin-related business in Molalla, is being passed early on election night by a 62.9% to 37.0% margin.

Approval of this measure would prohibit the establishment and operation of psilocybin-related businesses within the city of Molalla.
