Canby Herald letters to the editor for the May 2, 2018 edition -- positives signs and prayers

Time for a sign in every yard or window in town

To the editor:

I commend all the people who have "You Matter" signs in their yards.

But considering the gravity of current events, I would like to see a sign in every yard. No yard? Then a window. As a community, we need to let our kids know we care about them and not just some of us, but all of us.The Canby Herald.

How about the art departments of all the Canby schools make yard signs as a school project? Let the kids choose their own words for the signs that would be meaningful to them.

If necessary, let the signs be sold for five or ten bucks to cover costs. It would empower the kids and teach them that they have voices and they do matter. It would empower the community and show solidarity for every single child.

Prayer breakfast offers unique opportunity for us all

To the editor:

I was delighted to see the story about the upcoming Mayor's Prayer Breakfast in the Canby Herald and wanted to encourage people to turn out for the event on Thursday.

With so much division within our country right now, I think it's important that we use every resource at our disposal to help facilitate a kinder, gentler way forward -- including the use of prayer.

The Mayor's Prayer Breakfast offers an opporunity for the community to not only hear speakers talk about the issues that are all around us, but provides an opportunity for focused prayer for our local, regional, state and national leaders, something a lot of us feel would be of value. Hey, it couldn't hurt, could it?

Plan to attend the Mayor's Prayer Breakfast to lend your voice to a worthy endeavor whether you consider yourself conservative or liberal. Your prayers are needed.
