Agreeing with previous letter about runway

To the editor:

I agree with the writer of 10/17 letter "Airport Runway issues need more discussion."

Thank you for publishing the senator's concern on Aurora airport issue. Whether or not Sen. Fred Girod (Dist 9) info is exactly right, he's accurate that we residents need to have input before any plans/deals are set.

Wilsonville City Council should not be involved in this future discussion at all. Airport is in Marion County and the edge of Aurora city. Previous improvement discussions discounted/ignored local residents' concerns regarding increased noise volume and frequency of jet takeoffs.

And yes, Charbonneau residents have noise concerns too, as they're in direct flight path.

Any future changes at Aurora Airport affect all of us local/nearby residents. Please do keep us in mind and informed.

House District 39 needs Drazan this November

To the editor:

As a resident of House District 39, I would like to invite my neighbors to vote for Christine Drazan. Her experience as a tireless volunteer, business leader and reformer who understands the challenges we face at this end of Clackamas County make her the perfect choice for us.

Christine saw firsthand the financial struggles that our schools face when a member of the Canby School District's Budget Committee.

She will push for reforms in Salem that reduce dropout rates and give students the tools to find success in the world outside the classroom.

Local organizations also believe Christine is the legislator Oregon needs. She earned the backing of The Oregonian, North Clackamas Chamber, Oregon Farm Bureau, National Federation of Independent Business of Oregon and many others that care about the success of our community and value local living wage jobs.

Finally, I am impressed that Christine has spent countless hours this year visiting residents throughout our district to learn what issues are important to us. She is a great listener who will continue to hear our concerns in Salem.

When you complete your ballot, please cast your vote for Christine Drazan. She will fight for you in Salem.

Charles Gallia is worthy of District 20 vote

To the editor:

Alan Olsen, state senator (District 20), is a climate change denier. This is enough to disqualify him for office.

Science has verified that climate change is real and occurring at a critical pace. Either we act now or forfeit our children's future needs. Stable weather patterns are necessary for the growth of food and availability of water.

Please vote for Charles Gallia who acknowledges climate change and agrees to work for the health of our climate.

Pamela White worth a vote for county clerk

To the editor:

It is my pleasure to support Pamela White for our next Clackamas County clerk. I have known Pamela for many years as an active and generous member of our Canby community.

Pamela has the energy, knowledge and commitment to ensure our county will in good hands. Pamela is dedicated, hardworking and I believe her to be the best candidate to serve our communities.

Olsen team name game story is very offensive

To the editor:

My name is Curtis Gallia and I'd like to set the record straight. Nearly 20 years ago, my brother, Charles Gallia — currently running for Senate District 20 — and I changed our last name from Stoudt to Gallia.

Charles and I disagree on a lot of things, including our political views.

I was born three months after our father, Clarence, was killed by a drunk driver.

Left to raise us by herself, our Mom did the best she could, and eventually remarried. Her husband adopted me, my sister, and Charles, and we all became Stoudt's.

Many years later, after our Mom and stepdad divorced, our paternal grandmother, Elizabeth, lay dying in the hospital. As Charles and I sat by her bedside, she asked that we change our name back to Gallia. We both, of course, agreed. And we did fulfill our promise.

So, it's offensive to me, to my family, and to the integrity of the Gallia name that Senator Olsen's team would assert that my brother would change his name for any other reason than to fulfill the dying wish of our grandmother. I stay out of politics, but they went too far. Nothing is more important than family. One thing Charles and I can agree on.

Politicians have 'screwed' us

To the editor:

No offense to any of the candidates running for election this year, but I want to make my feelings known -- I'm tired of you failing us, the citizens, so you can support an ideology that really isn't helping us.

I watch a tax cut for the wealty create a very quick $1.6 trillion addition to the debt and wonder why anyone thought that would help.

You want to see money flow in the economy? Give a big old tax cut to the middle class and the money will flow back into the economy quickly and decisively.

Big corporations? They have no fealty to anything but their bottom line and shareholders. To think tax cuts for them will do anything for us is childish.

I'm tired of politicians who are supposed to serve the people, no matter what party, suckling at the teat of their party so ferociously that it's become embarassing to watch them try to explain themselves.

Party politics is killing this nation and you soon-to-be elected officials are part of that. You say you won't be? I call BS on that. You'll get in there and be just another side of the same coin and we, the hard-working middle class will get screwed as usual.

Let's be honest, the vast majority of politicians are cowards without nearly enough courage for their convictions -- if they have any convications to begin with. Credibility is earned and for the vast majority of politicians, you haven't earned it.

Pamela White a good vote for clerk

To the editor:

If you have not voted yet I would encourage you to cast your vote for Pamela White for Clackamas County Clerk. I have known Pamela since the mid nineties when she was elected to the Canby Elementary School Board. As a member of the Board it became quite evident her goal was to represent her constituents and support the children of the school district. No matter the issue her integrity and ethics were always a driving factor in her decision-making process. Through the years Pamela has maintained those same values. In our current hostile political environment, she would bring a willingness to listen and a sincere desire to completely understand the entire problem. She has a calm and supportive demeanor coupled with honesty and an openness to solve problems. Once again, I encourage you to vote for Pamela White for Clackamas County Clerk. Mike Zagyva Canby
