We've made some changes to our online paywall system
As we've announced previously, and as our online readers know, the Canby Herald and Molalla Pioneer newspapers have a paywall system in place through the Wallit company, which charges non-subscribers to view online stories after a certain threshold.
Previously, all stories were available to everyone for the first 24 hours, and after that point, non-subscribers would be asked to pay a quarter per story, a dollar for a day pass, or subscribe for unlimited access all the time.
But we've changed that structure so that now non-subscribers have access to three free stories per month, and after that will be asked to pay for the dollar day pass or subscribe for unlimited access.
Here's the reason for the change. Our parent company, Pamplin Media, has been testing various paywall methods at various local newspapers and have found that this simpler structure is working the best. So we've switched to it.
We are truly sorry for the inconvenience the paywall pop-up may cause folks. I've experienced that myself when reading a story on my phone! But, we are humbly asking the community to continue to support us in keeping local journalism alive.
If you typically read more than three of our stories in a month, in my opinion, the least fussy and most cost-effective option is to subscribe to the paper. That means no hindrances to reading the local stories you enjoy. And guess what, I'm not a sales person. I prefer giving things out for free and hate pressuring anyone to buy anything. I leave all that to our sales team. So when I suggest a subscription is the best option for readers, I mean it.
There are two basic subscription options: one year digital for an $18 flat fee or one year print + digital for $28.
If you're interested in subscribing, you can do that through Wallit or by calling our circulation crew at 503-620-9797.
If you read fewer than three stories in a month, you will continue to enjoy free access to our stories. Know that after one story, we will ask for your email address or for you to sign in through Facebook or Google, and then you'll be able to enjoy your additional two.
Thank you, readers, for allowing us to tell your stories, for reading them and for supporting us. We work every day for you, and we're thankful for you.
