Canby Herald letters to the editor for the June 12, 2019 edition - Good Samaritan and Memorial Day

Thanks offered for good Samaritan

To the editor:

Thanks to a very kind man. Several months ago my wife and I were on a walk on N. Redwood. Being quite elderly and both a little clumsy, my wife tripped and fell.

It must have been her turn because I usually fall on the curb or sidewalk, but she fell in the middle of 14th Street, which is a cross street to Redwood.

Lying in the middle of the street is not a good place to be and I was desperately trying to help her up when a car stopped on Redwood, turned on his flashers, ran across the street, helped us to the curb, made sure we were okay, ran back to his car and was gone.

When we got home we immediately discussed the man's appearance, and living together a long while we naturally came up with two totally different descriptions.

We just know that this man is from Canby. We have lived here for 40 years and Canby people are some of the most kind and generous in our lovely state.

To this kind, strong man. You know who you are. We wish everyone could know who you are.

Thank you.

Lots of positives over Memorial Day

To the editor:

Many thanks for letting Canby Herald readers know that they could 'snag' a red, paper poppy to wear during Memorial Day and weekend. Remember?

The week preceding that holiday, Woodburn Bi-Mart managers made space for Poppy Chairman Vie Anderson and her American Legion Auxiliary Aurora 110 members to set up a table and distribute those poppies.

Two other Unit #110 members, Diane Anderson and Jan Egli, canvassed the Aurora Cemetery on Ehlen Road to find all the wartime heroes buried there.

Those small, red flags blew gallantly in the breeze as a tribute to that patriotism of U.S. Veterans.

We care.
