Madeleva - or Madi for short, was born on March 10, 1931 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She grew up in San Francisco with her older brother, Vincent and her parents, Mary-Ethel and Gilbert.

After graduating from St. Rose Academy, Madi attended St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana near South Bend.

Upon returning to San Francisco, Madi met the love of her life, Robert (Bob) Steffens. They married on April 30, 1955. To this union were born five children - Edward (Leah), Maribeth (Wes) Yeates, David, William, and Kathleen (Chris) Berry. Madi and Bob were blessed with several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

After moving from California to Washington, to Colorado, and back to California, they finally settled in Lake Oswego, Oregon.

Madi was very active in her children's lives and her community. She was a professional seamstress before becoming a school secretary at Waluga Junior High.

After Bob's death in 1990, Madi went on to live a life full of meaning. Ever active, she traveled with friends, volunteered at Reruns Thrift Shop in the Lakewood Center for the Arts, and enjoyed her retirement years.

Madi moved to Meridian, Idaho in 2010 to be near her daughter.

Many thanks to Willow Park Memory Care who provided outstanding care to Madi during her final three years. Thank you also to Keystone Hospice for their care and concern during Madi's final days.

Madi was kind and compassionate, forever giving of herself to enrich others. She was a huge animal lover and spent many years caring for all creatures great and small. Put simply, Madi made this world a better place.

Madi will be laid to rest at a private burial service at Willamette National Cemetery. She will be joining her beloved husband, Bob.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to a favorite animal charity.
