If we're going to heal hurt feelings in this country, partisanship isn't the way to do it, reader says

Not the way to begin

To the editor:

This is in response to Oct. 28 letter to editor from Mr. Lenthal Kaup from Gervais regarding 'Democrat Forest Management.'

It is unfortunate that Mr. Kaup has buried his ideas and suggestions regarding forest management, (some of which have merit), under bellicose political rhetoric.

This is precisely the kind of approach to problems that we have heard so often for the last several years, and which divides and polarizes this country. The Republican walk-out in the last legislative session is an excellent example of where this kind of finger pointing and name calling approach gets, and that is exactly nowhere.

If we are going to "heal hurt feelings" as Mr. Kaup suggested at the end of his letter, this is not the way to begin.

Canby Fire thanks voters

Dear Citizens of the Canby Fire District,

On behalf of the Canby Fire District Board of Directors, chiefs, staff, and all the firefighters, we would like to extend our sincerest thank you and gratitude for your overwhelming support passing the five-year renewal of the local option levy.

Your support for this renewal will allow the fire district to continue our current level of pre-hospital emergency care and transportation, as well as fire protection.

The year 2020 has challenged the fire district with COVID-19 followed by the wildfires in Clackamas County and the state of Oregon. Your support toward the firefighters has been overwhelming, which shows through the 79.6% passage. This means a lot to all of us at Canby Fire.

Canby Fire is committed to our mission statement:

"Highly skilled, effective response to medical, ambulance, and fire emergencies, while working with our community to prevent, and prepare for, the next emergency."

With sincere gratitude,

James X. Davis, Canby Fire Chief

Shawn Carroll, Board President
