Water and waste service add-ons need to be cut back

To the editor:

Water issue on cost is the non-water/waste add-ons that the cities and bureaus tack on. We need to conserve for added population and industrial use but come on; every time we cut back use you jack the fee and add other items not related to water use.

Large portion of Oregonians not happy with school direction

To the editor:

Every student in Oregon should be a priority. Oregon's education system has ignored the needs of students. Oregon is near the top in education funding, we rank at the bottom for success and metrics. Oregon's K12 are stuck within school boundaries.

Over the last two years, we've seen cracks in the system existing long before COVID-19.

Parents became aware of Oregon Department of Education's priorities. These issues and the lack of parental rights caused over 30,000 families to pull their kids out of the public school system. They favor private and religious schools, pods and homeschools, which they have found are a better fit. Parents want their rights back.

I read a recent study from Oregon Moms Union and Nelson Research, 55.3% of Oregonians feel like the education system in Oregon is going in the wrong direction. In that same study, over 72% of respondents support giving "parents the right to use the tax dollars designated for their child's education to send their child to the public school or private school which best serves their needs."

When parents choose where their children go to school, kids receive the best education for their individual needs.
