The Cougars battled with Three Rivers League foe to stay afloat in dangerous waters

PMG PHOTO: TANNER RUSS - Canby's Noelani Hernandez On Monday, April 8, Canby girls' tennis team picked up another win. This time it came against Tigard, 6-2.

Tigard's number one singles and doubles were able to hold their own against their Canby counterparts. Senior Claire Wright was overcome by Tigard senior Nicole Mazzeo 2-0 (6-4, 6-3), and Tigard senior Leah Swanson and sophomore Abby Gilliat were able to defeat Canby senior Josie Warren and junior Arika Evans 2-0 (6-4, 6-2). Outside of those two matches though, Canby was able to hold its own.

In the no. 2 singles slot, Canby sophomore Noelani Hernandez was able to defeat Tigard junior Emma Parker in a very competitive two set sweep, winning 7-6 and 6-4. In the three slot, junior Rachel Bigej was able to dispose of Tigard junior Ellie Dodson 2-0 (6-2, 6-1), and junior Ellie Kromer was able to defeat Tigard's Emily Sverdrup 2-0 (6-4, 7-6 (5)).

In doubles action, Canby's Karly Bierma and Cassidy Lowry downed Tigard's Sophia Freebury and Citlali Nieves Lira 2-0 (6-0, 6-2). No. 3 doubles Lillian Lockwood and Amanda Davis battled for three sets against Tigard's Priscila Loza Orozco and Ellie Noyes, winning 2-1 (6-1, 4-6, 6-0). Finally, Canby's no. 4 doubles Danielle Netter and Naarai Gomez netted the final win, getting 2-0 victory (6-4, 6-1) to close out the day.
