Canby senior Brent Patterson brought home the hardware, but Cougars coach Jimmy Joyce was proud of all nine of his players that competed at the Metro Lineman Challenge Saturday, July 20 at Hare Field in Hillsboro.
"These guys are really working hard and are developing into a solid group of lineman and leaders," Joyce said, crediting defensive coordinator Brett Rhodes, offensive line coach Paul Huggins and freshman line coach Monty Martin.
On his way to becoming the light weight champion, Patterson took first in farmer carry and bench press, setting a Metro Lineman Challenge record with 36 reps.
Joyce said Kole Schaffner, who is moving to center this season, placed second in several events, including the 20-yard shuttle by half a second.
Overall, Canby finished 10th out of 29 teams ahead of longtime football powerhouses Jesuit and Central Catholic, as Joyce said Sturgeon Anderson, Payton Martin, Bryant Raeburn and Joshua Mottern also delivered standout performances.
