Daley McClellan had narrowed her search down to three colleges in California when she got a text message from the head volleyball coach at her dream school.

"It's always been my dream to play at Oregon because we grew up as a Duck family," says McClellan, whose mom, Shannon, played volleyball and threw the javelin at Oregon for a year before transferring to Southern Oregon.

McClellan, an incoming junior outside hitter at Canby High School, had scheduled visits to Division I programs Sacramento State, California Baptist and Loyola Marymount when Ducks coach Matt Ulmer contacted her a week before the trip.

The message was a surprise. While McClellan had spoken to Oregon assistant coaches earlier in the summer at the Ducks indoor and beach camps, she had never met Ulmer.

After returning from California, McClellan visited Eugene in early August.

"I loved everything about it, the coaches, the players," says McClellan, who was offered a spot on Oregon's indoor and beach teams as a walk-on.

After talking to her parents, McClellan called Ulmer on Thursday, Aug. 15 and committed to the Ducks.

"Oregon is where I've wanted to go my whole life," McClellan says. "It was an easy decision for me. They're a really good volleyball program and they have a huge legacy. It would just be a great opportunity to be a part of that."

McClellan, who has played volleyball since the fourth grade, says she attends at least two Ducks games a season. Oregon went 23-11 last year and advanced to the Elite Eight of the NCAA Tournament.

"It's just such a competitive environment," McClellan says. "I knew that I would get so much better if I went there. I just have to work really, really hard and I just want to be a part of the Pac-12. That's always been my dream."

McClellan has spent the past two years playing club for the Oregon Juniors Volleyball Academy.

At Canby, she has twice been voted First Team all-conference and has two more high school seasons remaining before she can join the Ducks.

"It's so crazy," McClellan says. "It's a huge weight off my back. I've been stressing about it and now I can just play without worrying about it."
