This week, Derek Wiley highlights a tough loss for the Canby volleyball team Tuesday night

Sports Editor Derek Wiley offered a glimpse into the Canby High sports scene this week, highlighting a tough loss for the Canby volleyball team Tuesday night. The Cougars were up 2 sets to 1 against Oregon City before dropping the final two sets in a five-set loss.

The staff talked about how that might play out for the playoff season, which led to a discussion of the Canby football team and how the improvement they've made should be evident – even during defeats. This Friday is the homecoming game, something the staff talked about in terms of energy and excitement, as well as the usual atmosphere the surrounds the game.

The girls and boys soccer teams are enjoying varying degrees of success as the season heads toward the homestretch, and Derek offered up an update on the progress of Ellie Shorter and the massive community response to her diagnosis of Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Special shirts have been made and are selling heavily, as well as a GoFundMe page and other instances of support she is receiving from not only Canby, but the area as a whole.
