Canby football to consider moving down to Class 5A
The Canby High School athletic department will hold a town hall meeting Wednesday, Nov. 20 to consider dropping to Class 5A for football only.
OSAA granted Canby the option to move down a classification for the next two years after the Cougars won less than 22 percent of their games over the 2018-19 seasons.
Canby finished 2-7 last season and 0-9 in 2018.
Two years ago, 22 programs took advantage of this opportunity, including five 6A schools (McKay, Wilson, South Eugene, Cleveland and Forest Grove) who play football in 5A.
For Canby, no decision has been made. The athletic department first wants to hear from the community.
The meeting will begin at 6 p.m. in the high school's auditorium.
Canby has until Dec. 1 to give OSAA its decision.
After two years, Canby would automatically move back to 6A if the Cougars won more than 66 percent of their games or one playoff contest.
