Canby drops final non-league basketball games
Canby's girls basketball team wrapped up its non-league schedule with a 49-33 loss at Sheldon in Eugene last Tuesday.
The Cougars made just one of 17 3-pointers and shot 23 percent overall.
"We played well defensively, but just had a difficult shooting night," Canby coach Chuck Knight said. "Missed some point blank shots and a lot of open 3s."
Despite the poor shooting performance, the Cougars trialed by just five points midway through the fourth quarter before Sheldon went on a run to end the game.
Ally Odell had eight points and 10 rebounds. Nicole Mickelson scored nine points.
The Cougars have a 6-3 record entering their Three Rivers League schedule.
Canby's boys basketball team (6-6) also lost its final non-league game, falling 58-52 at Sprague in Salem on Tuesday.
Alex Evans had 16 points and five rebounds. Diego Arredondo had 14 points and Chance Miller added 10 points.
Ben Bailey finished with eight points and seven rebounds.
Canby plays a doubleheader at Lakeridge on Friday, Jan. 17, beginning with the boys game at 5:45 p.m.
